Background:
There are many dams between the headwaters of the Yakima River and the Pacific Ocean. Some of these are used for power generation, and some are used for water diversion/ storage (for irrigation). These dams have long been a source of heated debate.
Cases have gone to court many times in the past about this very topic. Dams are scheduled to be removed in other areas of the Pacific Northwest (the Elwha River in Washington, the Klamath River in Oregon).
Our mock trial will debate this issue and our results will be reported to the stakeholders in the actual case to remove dams from the Columbia River.
